An artist's job is one of interpretation. To find the right values and hues to render a given subject matter. Tattoo art is no different. Take this portrait of Mr. Blonde from the Tarantino film Reservoir Dogs, many tattoo artists will say that the piece is too dark. What those artists aren't accounting for is the degree to which a black and grey tattoo will lighten as it heals. The better artist will allow for this lightening to take place as the irritated skin settles down and the pigment trapped in the upper (non tattooing) layers of skin flake off during the healing process. This will result in a much better, more real-looking (almost tangible) healed tattoo. Stay tuned to cardinaltattoo.com for healed photos of this beautiful piece.
