This large portrait of Freddie Mercury, arguably the greatest rock vocalist of all time, was completed over two smaller sessions at Cardinal Tattoo for a discounted rate because, frankly, Will had a last minute cancellation one day and got bored. Dude, you heard that right: Will loves tattooing so much he did this piece at less than half price so he didn’t have to sit idle. Apparently it’s true what they say about one person’s loss being another’s gain. All we know is this Freddie Mercury portrait will certainly rock you!

If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a thousand times: The single best way to show your love for something or someone is through tattoo. A lot of people know this inherently, which is why we turn down so many young people trying to get their boy/girlfriend’s name on their wrist/chest/face. In this case, however, we have a father getting a portrait of one of his daughters. His other daughter’s portrait is on the opposite side of his forearm and isn’t finished yet, though both pieces were started on the same day. All told, this portrait on about 1/3 of the second portrait were accomplished in about 9 hours. A second session will finish the portrait of his daughter and start (and maybe finish) the portrait of his wife. Now that’s love!
The wait for our realism artist, Will, is about two months for weekdays and four months for weekends. Given several breakthroughs in his artwork and upcoming events planned, we do not expect this wait time to diminish. In fact, due to scheduled travel involving guest spots and conventions, we expect that the wait will be closer to three months for weekdays by the end of September. It is for this reason that we highly recommend that anyone who would like to get tattooed by Will set an appointment sooner than later, to avoid protracted wait times. We appreciate your patience in this matter.
Will does a single tattoo per day, charging a flat rate of $600. While he can and does tattoo every style, he gives priority to realism- both black and grey and color. Previous clients and potential clients seeking large, multi-session pieces, such as sleeves or backpieces will be given precedence. He takes a $100, non-refundable deposit that is deducted from the cost of the tattoo in order to set an appointment. Will is currently working seven days per week in order to prevent him from booking out more than three months, but at the current rate and given his upcoming travel schedule, we expect him to be booking for January by the end of September. After that we start booking for the upcoming tax refund season, during which Will is still going to be travelling so you can imagine the kind of delay procrastinators will face.
Two years ago Will was booking out 5 months in advance. He increased his prices to curb demand and increased his workload to 7 days per week, only taking days off when the inevitable last minute cancellation occurs from time to time or for family obligations. He elected not to take a vacation this year and cut his convention schedule, freeing up a total of about 40 appointments.
We share this with you for the sake of full disclosure, as many times people will visit Cardinal Tattoo in order to get tattooed by Will, only to find out they have to wait weeks, if not months to get an appointment. Will has also made some impressive progress over the last few months, working intensely to improve his skill set, the results of which we will be sharing with you here immediately following the Full Moon Tattoo and Horror Festival this Oct. 19th-21st in Nashville! Stay Tuned to Cardinaltattoo.com for more!
While not entirely finished, to get this far on such a large thigh piece in one session is nothing to sneeze at. Roses are easily the most popular types of flower for tattooing, and black and grey roses are famous for their delicate beauty. Cardinal Tattoo has become renown for creating such masterful pieces, and we will continue to work doggedly to improve our skills.
For those of you who do not yet know, our beloved Karen is back, at least on a part-time basis for now, from her recent maternity leave. The family at Cardinal Tattoo would like to thank you for your patience and welcome you to book your next appointment with Karen at your earliest convenience. Baby Lillian Rose is doing well.
Will just finished Crystal's Tin Man from her Wizard of Oz leg sleeve, in preparation for the upcoming Full Moon Tattoo and Horror Festival this October! We'll be posting some more photos of this entire piece after the show, so stay tuned to cardinaltattoo.com for updates.
Will started this portrait of Terry Bollea (aka Hulk Hogan) as Thunderlips from the movie Rocky 3 as a part of a Rocky-inspired leg piece. He would have finished it, but it was on a friend and time and money aren't an issue, so for the sake of comfort, they both decided to call it a day and will return to finish it at a later date. Stay tuned to cardinaltattoo.com for updates on the Hulkster!

Many of you know Will's wife Crystal. She's super sweet, she pierces at the Cardinal Tattoo, and she absolutely HATES getting tattooed. Seriously. So you can tell how much she must love The Wizard of Oz if she's willing to sit through something like this. The Tin Man's face is the latest addition to an entire leg sleeve inspired by the much-loved film. Will also did a remarkable Labyrinth leg sleeve on our buddy Angeline, some of which can be found in his gallery. Don't even get us started on the Harry Potter leg sleeve he's started on Patrick. Have a movie you love? Something that speaks to your character of maybe even changed your life? Visit Cardinal Tattoo and speak with our resident realism artist Will about getting a piece of art to commemorate that affection.
At Cardinal Tattoo we have a policy of trying to work with our customers' budgets. This doesn't mean that you can get the same thing for less just because you can't afford it. It means that we will change the design in order to make the tattoo you are getting fit into your budget whenever possible.
This doesn't mean the same thing to everyone. For some people budget is a limitation, for others it means the sky's the limit! So when we ask you what your budget is for a given piece, it isn't a loaded question or some sort of trick or gimmick, we just legitimately need to know how much money you want to spend so that we can fit our customers' needs.
Sorry about the hairs, but we just had to get a quick shot of this Reanimator tattoo that Will did, healed for several months now. We love it when our friends stop by and show us how well their latest piece healed up. It's also very important to be able to show future clients how their healed tattoo will look. In a world dominated by social media photos of fresh tattoos and photoshopped or filtered work, Cardinal Tattoo strives to provide our clients with the honest reality of how great tattoos look healed. Real world honesty, real world results.
Or in this case, woman's best friend! Animal portraits have long been a part of tattoo, and while many people aren't aware of this, just stopping long enough to think about the love people have or their pets is enough to illicit a head nod. For many of us our pets are the closest living members of our family. They are friend, confidant, and champion all rolled into one. Well, dogs at least. A cat would eat you if you died. Even the goldfish at Cardinal Tattoo are pretty, but they're hard to pet. Well. This has been fun.
Cardinal Tattoo is constantly striving to be the very best. It is with great pride that we present one of the fruits of that labor to you here in the form of this Gian Lorenzo Bernini angel sculpture tattoo. If you live in the greater Nashville area and your tattoo artist isn't doing this level of work, we ask that you swing by Cardinal Tattoo between the hours of noon and 10pm any day of the week and see what all the fuss is about. This tattoo, performed by our resident realism artist Will, was made in just under 9 hours. Will charges a daily rate of $600, so that is all this amazing piece cost! We sincerely hope that you will give us the opportunity to amaze you and trust us with your next tattoo.

This latest addition to Wayne's gangster collection delves into the world of the Italian mobster. Judging by his severely scarred face and not-so-straight eyes, let alone his rap sheet, Lucky Luciano was not a man you wanted to cross. The photo below is a few weeks healed.
This Sunday, July 29th, Cardinal Tattoo welcomed a new member to our family. Lillian Rose Celeste Davis was born 6 lbs. 5 ozs at half past the hour of 7 in the evening.
